Canada Day 2016 & new top:)

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Official French and its English translation:

Ô Canada!
Terre de nos aïeux,
Ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
Il sait porter la croix!
Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
Protégera nos foyers et nos droits.
O Canada!
Land of our forefathers,
Thy brow is wreathed with glorious garlands of flowers.
As is thy arm ready to wield the sword,
So also is it ready to carry the cross.
Thy history is an epic
Of the most brilliant exploits.
Thy valour steeped in faith
Will protect our homes and our rights.
Will protect our homes and our rights.

Hello all:) I hope my fellow Canadians all had a great Canada Day yesterday!:) I spent some quality time with my family and so thankful to live in this great country! The more I see what's going on in the world, the more grateful I am for Canada and the values we uphold. I'm very thankful for our Canadian Armed Forces and the sacrifices they make to keep us safe.

I only recently looked up the lyrics of the original French National Anthem. "..ready to carry the cross".  More importantly, I'm thankful for the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ who shed His blood on the cross for our sins, paying the penalty Himself.

"Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."

1 Corinthians 1:22-24

This is another New Look top, 6216. It's fast becoming a staple of mine! I've worn my last version at least a dozen times already and I have two more planned. The pattern is pretty simple. I made the neck band a bit shorter by folding out a 1/2" from the centre of the pattern piece (the neckband of my last top didn't lie quite flat enough, so I knew I needed to make an adjustment for any future tops). I used steam a seam on the hem again just because I was in a hurry to finish it so I could wear it yesterday.

**Tip for marking the hem fast. I sewed a basting stitch along the bottom (so basically sewed the top closed and pressed open the seam, removed the basting, and placed steam a seam along the crease. Proceeded as usual.

I have enough fabric left over to make a hem band if I decide to add one. I laid one of my better fitting RTW tops over this one as a guide for how much to take in the side to make it a bit more shapely yet still relaxed. The fabric is a cotton knit (I think!) in red, white & beige. The colours seem appropriately patriotic (flag is red & white, land is beige:). Next year I think I'll make a "flag dress". I have some ideas floating around in my head...;)

I'd like to extend a happy Independence Day to my American friends, which is coming up on Monday! :) Til next time!
